Indonesian House of the Representatives Invited Governor of Central Kalimantan to Discuss Oil Palm, Forest and Land Fires
JAKARTA – BUREAU OF PROTOCOL AND PUBLIC COMMUNICATION. Central Kalimantan Governor Sugianto Sabran attended the Hearing Meeting with the Indonesian House of the Representatives in the Meeting Room of Commission IV (KK IV) Nusantara Building, Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/2/2020). The agenda for the Indonesian House of the Representatives’ Meeting for the Trial Period II of the 2019-2020 Session Year, among others, was to discuss the oil palm plantations. The agenda also discussed the follow-up for handling forest and land fires that occurred in Central Kalimantan.
The Chairman of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of the Representatives, Sudin, said that the use of forest areas must be implemented in an appropriate and sustainable manner by considering ecological, social, and economical aspects, as well as by maintaining the sustainability for future generations.
Information received by Commission IV of the Indonesian House of the Representatives stated that forest damage was generally caused by illegal logging and burning of land without permission. Another problem that is currently faced by Indonesia is the problem of forest encroachment and a lot of damages caused by the activities of corporate companies. Commission IV of the Indonesian House of the Representatives also received a lot of information that the perpetrators of forest destruction come from outside the area.
