The purpose of this meeting is to build the same perception among all parties involved in the oversight of the accountability of state and regional financial management, especially in relation to the implementation of the acceleration of handling Covid-19 and the national economy.
President Joko Widodo in his remarks stressed that 215 countries in the world, including Indonesia, face a state of emergency and must save citizens from the threat of Covid-19 and the terrible economic pressures and struggle to avoid entering the recession. All of that requires a fast and appropriate government response in the health, socio-economic, and informal MSME sectors which must continue to be able to survive. The government’s fast and appropriate steps must be accountable.
The President reminded that the government had allocated funds of Rp 677.2 trillion to accelerate the handling of Covid-19 and national economy recovery. This number is a very large. Therefore, the governance and management must be good, the targets must be precise, the procedures must be simple and straightforward, and the outputs and outcomes must be maximal for the lives of all Indonesian people.
“I invite you to oversee and supervise well so that the funds can help the community and business people who are experiencing difficulties,” the President said.
The President emphasized that the prevention aspect must be put forward. “We must be more proactive, don’t wait for problems to occur. If there is a potential problem, please immediately remind and do not let officials or government officials fallen. Build an early warning system, strengthen good governance that is transparent and accountable,” continued the President.
“I want to emphasize that the government is very serious about accountability. Prevention must take precedence, good governance must take precedence. But if there are still those being stubborn and there is an intention to corrupt, then please bite it hard! State money must be saved, we must keep people’s trust!” stressed the President.
The task of law enforcement officers, the police, Attorney General’s Office, Corruption Eradication Commission, investigators, and civil servants is to uphold the law. “But I remind you not to bite innocent people. Do not spread fear on the executors in carrying out their duties,” added the President.
BPKP, Inspectorate, and LKPP are internal government officials who must focus on the prevention and improvement of governance.
The synergy cooperation with BPK’s external auditing institutions must continue. Likewise, synergies with law enforcement, police, prosecutors and the Corruption Eradication Commission must continue.
“With the synergy as well as checks and balances between institutions and support from the people of Indonesia, I am sure we will work better, handle challenges faster, and rise forward to oversee our nation’s important and big agenda towards advanced Indonesia,” the President said.
