JAKARTA – BUREAU PROTOCOL AND PUBLIC COMMUNICATION. Governor of Central Kalimantan H. Sugianto Sabran attended the Limited Meeting with the Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto at the Ministry of Defense Office, Jakarta, Thursday (27/8/2020) evening.

On this meeting, Governor Sugianto Sabran delivered an explanation regarding the development of food security and progress of food estate to the Indonesian Minister of Defense. This meeting also discusses the lands for national food reserves outside the former Peatland Development (PLG).

The Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto said that the 1 million hectares (Ha) land would be prepared gradually to support the Ministry of Defense that will develop local food commodities, such as cassava in Central Kalimantan.

In the first phase, a land area of ​​30 thousand hectares will be developed in Gunung Mas Regency and it is targeted to have started planting in December 2020. As for various varieties of cassava to be developed, including Kristal Merah, Iding, Carvita 25, Revita R1, Malang 4, Litbang UK2, Darul Hidayah, UJ 5, and Adira 4. These varieties of cassava will be adapted to the land conditions and product development objectives, as the food raw materials or as the industrial raw materials.

Central Kalimantan Governor Sugianto Sabran welcomed the plan to develop local food commodities. “Central Kalimantan has a large area and it is adequate for the development of food commodities and Central Kalimantan is really ready, especially that it is not only related to food availability, but all aspects will have a positive impact, the economy will grow and be accelerated rapidly, the labor sector will create workforce opportunities, people’s social life rapidly develops in line with progress of civilization,” said the Governor.

Governor Sugianto explained that the food estate will be done in addition to local residents. It will also be prioritized for the people of Central Kalimantan to work and develop in the food area estate. “We are optimistic about the food security and food estate, this national program in Central Kalimantan will be a success and well developed, both downstream and upstream, in which the impact on the increasing economy for Central Kalimantan’s people and for the national level,” added Governor Sugianto Sabran.
