PALANGKA RAYA – EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATION BUREAU. The Central Kalimantan Covid-19 Handling Task Force said that the virus that causes Covid-19, Sars-CoV-2, continues to mutate to form new variants. The most recent variant and has been detected in many countries is the Omicron variant. There are few things to know about this variant which is also known as variant B.1.1.529. This variant was first detected in South Africa on November 24, 2021 and now the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially included the new variant B.1.1529 or the Omicron variant as a Variant of Concern (VOC).
Preliminary evidence in studies of this variant suggests an increased risk of recurrent infection although there is still no evidence that this variant can spread more quickly or cause more severe symptoms than other variants. Currently, PCR tests can still detect this variant and until at least 28 November 2021 there has been no evidence of cases of the Omicron variant found in Southeast Asia.
